Believe in the sun, even when it's not shining

In love, even when you're alone

In God, even when He is silent.

1st First Grade Field Trip

We are loving this weather that made our first field trip of the year to The Houston Zoo a very special treat...

When we first arrived, we had a Critter Encounter with a very large bunny and learned about many of the different animals at the zoo...

Gracie's favorites are always the elephants, the giraffes and the sea lions, so when we were set free, our first stop was supposed to be at the giraffes, but there were no giraffes...more about that later...so we found the elphants instead...

This is Baby Baylor...I could have taken this fuzzy creature home with me right away, but then Jack reminded me that I only thought I had a lot of poop to clean now...uh oh...on second thought, I wouldn't want to take the little guy away from his family! Baylor's mama looked glad that I made that decision... :)
He's cute beyond measure though...
We think this is his big brother and they were having quite a time sparring with one another...
While I was thinking how nice it would be to be doing what these guys are doing...

Jack was thinking how nice it would be to kidnap this anteater and bring him home with us...with all of the rain we've had in the past couple of weeks, the ants have made homes everywhere in our yard -
....and this was Jack's favorite...this guy looks like he needs a neck brace! Jack even came home and looked them up on youtube - please, no...
I don't remember what these are called, but Gracie really liked them....
Gracie and her best friend, Skylar...
In the petting zoo, this goat decided to take his siesta in the feed bin... :)
Gracie and Sky were amazed by the cleanup/poop wagon...Claire thought maybe there were more exciting things to see...
...so she led the way to the goats and the girls gave them all a good brushing...
Houston, I think we have a problem...

We found the giraffes finally...they are in their new home already in the "Africa" section of the zoo that is still under construction...maybe next time...
The sea lions...they were really enjoying the sunshine!
It had really grown warm after lunch and we were the last ones from her class to still be there at 2:45, so we decided to head home...after lots of hugs, we bid a farewell to Sky and her Daddy....what a great day!
